Course Selection Regulations and Academic Policies

Course & Credit Regulations

Course Credit Regulations on Undergraduate Programs
Credit limits: 16–25 credits for Freshman to Junior; 9–25 for Seniors. Students must get advisor and dean approval for credit overload or underload.
Course Credit Regulations on Graduate Programs
Graduate students must take at least one course per semester, including thesis research, to maintain enrollment status.
Course Prerequisite
Some courses require prerequisites. Students must meet them or request approval using the Prerequisite Clearance Form.
Repeating a Course
Students may not repeat a course they've passed unless exceptions apply. Graduate students must submit a form with departmental approval before the add/drop deadline.
Graduate Students Taking Undergraduate or Other Departments' Courses
General education and language courses won't count for graduate credit or GPA. Other courses may count if approved by the student's department. Consult your advisor before enrolling.

Enrollment & Course Selection

Advising Password
Students must enter the 8-digit password issued by their advisor before the Add/Drop deadline to complete course selection.
Time Conflict
Class time conflicts are not allowed; only "X-Class" courses are exempt.
Regulations on the Close of a Course Due to an Insufficient Number of Students
Undergraduate courses with fewer than 5 students (or 10 if paid hourly) and graduate courses with fewer than 3 students will be canceled after add/drop. Students will be notified to adjust schedules if needed.
Differences Between Dropping and Withdrawing from a Course
Dropping leaves no record and requires no approval; withdrawing shows a "W" on your transcript and needs instructor and advisor approval. Refund and timing rules differ.
