Key Points Regarding Summer Course Offerings at Tsing Hua University
- The school has implemented guidelines to enhance the flexibility of course selection. This includes regular semester courses as well as special subjects that may face challenges in hiring teachers.The subjects offered will be announced at the end of May each year.
- Students taking summer courses are normally limited to a maximum of nine credits. However, it is possible to exceed this limit in exceptional circumstances, with the agreement of both the advisor and the head of department.
- To participate in summer courses, students must pay the required tuition fees and complete the course selection and registration procedures as specified. Courses with fewer than 15 students registered after the payment deadline will be cancelled.
- The duration of a summer course is usually eight weeks. The number of credit hours for each subject is determined by the amount of instruction received, with one credit equal to 18 hours of instruction. However, for practical or laboratory subjects, the credit hour principle is 36 to 54 hours of teaching per credit. In the School of Medicine programme, clinical internship subjects require up to 80 hours for one credit.
- The rules for grading summer courses are as follows: Passing or failing grades should all be recorded on the transcript and included in the overall average. Credits earned during the summer term will not be combined with credits from any regular term, nor will summer grades be averaged with grades from any regular term.
- The school's summer courses are open to students from other schools, but they must comply with the school's 'Inter-school Course Implementation Regulations' and pay the necessary credit fees.
- Teachers offering summer courses are paid an hourly fee based on the standards set by the Executive Yuan's "Standards for Payment of Hourly Fees to Part-Time Teachers in Public Colleges and Universities."
- There will be no pre-selection. Matters not specified will be dealt with in accordance with the school rules and regulations.

國立清華大學暑期開課要點
一、本校為增加選課之彈性特訂定本要點。凡正常學期之課程,或聘請教師困難之特殊科目,均可開設。所開設之科目每年於五月底公布。
二、學生參加暑期選課最多不超過九學分為原則,因特殊原因經導師及系主任同意,得超修。
三、學生參加暑期選課,應依規定繳納學分費,辦理選課、登記之手續。 選課繳費截止後,若修課人數不足15人之課程則停開。
四、暑期上課八週為原則。本校各科目之學分數,原則以授課滿十八小時為一學分。實習或實驗科目,原則以授課滿三十六至五十四小時為一學分。學士後醫學系臨床實習科目原則以至多八十小時為一學分。
五、學生暑期選課成績考查規定如下: 成績及格或不及格,均應登記於歷年成績表內,並算入總平均內。 暑期所修學分不與任何學期學分合併累計;暑期成績亦不與任何學期成績平均。
六、本校暑期開課得接受他校學生參加,惟須按本校「校際選課實施辦法」辦理,並應依規定繳納學分費。
七、教師開設暑期課程一律支領鐘點費,教師鐘點費依行政院頒布「公立大專校院兼任教師鐘點費支給標準表」之夜間授課鐘點費標準支給。
八、暑假選課不辦理預選,其他未規定者,依本校學則及有關規定辦理。
九、本要點經教務會議通過後施行。
