Enrollment Guidelines for Graduate Students
NTHU operates on a self-enrollment system. All courses must be registered online by the student. Please review the regulations below to ensure a valid enrollment.
1. Minimum Credit Requirement
- Students must enroll in at least one course per semester (excluding leaves of absence).
2. Automatic Enrollment for "Thesis Research" (0 Credits)
- Eligibility: Master’s and Doctoral students (2nd year+) may use "Thesis Research" to fulfill the minimum enrollment requirement.
- Mechanism: The system automatically adds this course after the Add/Drop period ends.
- Student Action: No manual addition is needed. Simply verify it on your schedule via the Academic Information System after the deadline.
3. Credit Fee Calculation Important
Calculation is based on cumulative credits and is independent of graduation requirements:
- Phase A: Before reaching your department's minimum graduation threshold, fees apply to all courses (including Undergraduate, GE, PE, etc.).
- Phase B: Once total credits reach or exceed the threshold, fees will no longer be charged for additional courses.
4. Courses Not Counted Toward Graduation
These categories are generally excluded from graduation credits and semester GPA:
- General Education (GE)
- Military Training (MI)
- Physical Education (PE)
- Teacher Education Program
*Language courses (except those starting with code '5') are also excluded.
5. Undergraduate & Cross-Department Courses
Grades will appear on your transcript, but credit recognition is subject to your department's specific regulations.
