Graduate Student Registration & Credit Policies
NTHU implements a self-registration system. All courses (including required and elective) must be registered online by students themselves. Please take note of the following:
1. Minimum Course Requirement
Students must take at least one course per semester. Master’s students in their 2nd year (or 3rd year and above) and PhD students in their 2nd year (or 3rd year and above), depending on department regulations, may choose to enroll in "Thesis Research" with 0 credits only. Click here for details
2. Credit Recognition Rules
The following courses can be taken but their credits do not count toward graduation requirements and will not be included in the semester’s registered or earned credits:
- General Education courses
- Military Training or Physical Education courses
- Language courses (except language courses with course codes starting with 5)
- Education Program courses
※ Credits for the above courses are still included in the "credit fee" calculation. See details: Credit Fee Regulations
3. Cross-Department Course Registration
Graduate students may take undergraduate courses or courses across other departments. The credits of these courses will be recorded in the semester transcript and counted toward the total semester credits and GPA. However, whether these credits can be applied toward graduation depends on individual department regulations. Please confirm with your department in advance.
4. Questions About Credit Recognition
If you have any doubts regarding whether a course or its credits can be counted toward graduation, it is recommended to directly contact your department office.
