X-class - teacher interface

It's not possible for students to take time-conflicting classes, but from Fall 2022 students can request to take two time-conflicting classes together (one of which must be an X-class) under certain conditions.

If the instructor agrees to mark the course as an X-class in the course comments column (as shown in the figure below), the instructor must provide a full semester's worth of teaching videos. Under certain conditions, students may request to take two time-conflicting classes together (one of which must be an X-class).

Certain  conditions

Students must complete the 'X-Class Application Form' to discuss with the X-Class instructor various aspects of the course learning, such as physical class participation, interactive discussions, practical exercises, exam scheduling and course assessment methods. Students are not permitted to request additional tuition from two different course instructors or to request a leave of absence based on attendance at another course. Regardless of quizzes, midterms, finals, or other exams that conflict with another course, students may not ask the instructor to reschedule exams, provide additional make-up opportunities, or consider grades differently.

Once a student's request has been approved, the X-class cannot be cancelled.

If no student requests are received by the add/drop deadline, the X-Class notation may still be maintained, but instructional videos may no longer be provided.

How to use the Teacher Interface

Evaluation during Course Scheduling
Teachers will be provided with a full semester's worth of instructional videos for their courses. Students may request flexible and collaborative independent study in the event of scheduling conflicts. At the instructor's discretion, the instructional videos provided may be used exclusively by students who have requested schedule conflicts or may be shared with the entire class.

Students are required to complete the "X-Class Application Form" to discuss with the X-Class instructor various aspects of the course learning, such as physical class participation, interactive discussions, practical exercises, exam scheduling, and course assessment methods. Students are not permitted to request additional tuition from two different course instructors, or to request a leave of absence based on attendance at another course. Regardless of quizzes, midterms, finals, or other exams that conflict with another course, students may not ask the instructor to reschedule exams, provide additional make-up opportunities, or consider grades differently.

Neither teacher of the two courses is required to provide additional instruction or take time off to attend another class. Whether it is a quiz, mid-term, final or any other examination, teachers cannot be asked to reschedule, provide additional make-up opportunities or consider grades differently if the examination time conflicts with another course.

Teacher approval is required for scheduling conflicts, but the course registration process must still be completed by the students themselves (online selection or add/remove).

Exam schedule in course syllabus

If there is an exam schedule for the X-Class course, the instructor should clearly state it in the course syllabus to help students plan ahead.

Keep the bottom copy of the application form

The application form consists of a top and bottom copy. After the teacher has signed the form, the student gives the bottom copy to the X-Class teacher to keep for future reference. (It will not be specifically noted on the attendance list for the regular student roll call).
